Brony r/Place 2024
Above: My live stream on June 23rd. r/place didn't happen then, but there were other canvas events and details to discuss.
What we know:
Initial speculation of JunePlace fell through. Code speculated to be required to run the event is not currently present in the iOS app. Reddit's anniversary came and went.
No other new code, leaks, or announcements as of writing.
June 30th: A vtuber canvas event ends successfully, with brony involvement from the ManePxls faction. The end of the month marks confirmation that the initial speculation is no longer relevant.
June 23rd: r/Place obviously didn't happen on their anniversary. That doesn't mean the event won't happen at all this year, but it also means we don't have a speculated date anymore. The "credible individual" maintains their June claim.
June 18th: As Reddit's anniversary approaches, no new r/Place code, leaks, or announcements are revealed. The latest Reddit app update does not seem to include the necessary code for an event to occur. It's possible they have some other technique for launch planned, or they scrapped plans for r/Place again entirely. Regardless, many factions including Bronies have been busy preparing for the past couple of months just in case.
April 7th: Bronies host their first public mod meeting of the year. This accompanies various preparations and Discord server updates over the coming weeks.
March 22nd: Snakeroom announces a lack of information regarding any specific April Fools event, but acknowledges the fact r/Place is still ready to go behind the scenes and "Reddit is indeed working on something related to r/Place." A followup Snakeroom announcement shares the fact r/Place assets were removed from the iOS app for an upcoming update. If it's ever added back to the app store it'll be solid evidence of an imminent event.
March 19th: Member of the brony r/Place server, Starshine, notices a name change to the r/Place assets. The generic codename "BakedPotatoBundle.bundle" was changed to the much more obvious name of "RPlaceBundle.bundle".
March 15th: A credible individual from the r/Place community claims to have an inside source which says Reddit plans to host a r/Place event every year in June to celebrate Reddit's anniversary. This claim seems credible as their position in the community is quite notable and it's not just some random person making this stuff up.
